History of Computer Center

January 14, 1999     

Nakhon Pathom Rajabhat University has launched its internet service through a network internet of Internet Thailand.

 

               On the occasion of Rajabhat Institute celebrating “Week of the King’s Honor” on January 14th -17th  1999, Mr. Padermchai Sasomsap, Deputy Minister of Transport presided over the opening ceremony of Nakhon Pathom Rajabhat University internet service  via remote access. This is the first time Nakhon Pathom Rajabhat University started its internet service through a network internet of Internet Thailand.  This was due to the vision of Mrs. Penrut Warirak, the then President of Nakhon Pathom Rajabhat University who had signed an agreement on December 28th , 1998 for Nakhon Pathom Rajabhat University project to provide a network connectivity under the name ‘Thaisarn Internet’. The internet speed provided was 128 kilobits per second (kbps).  Since then Nakhon Pathom Rajabhat University was with the determination to be the institute that had its computer center and the center would be regarded as a center/division/faculty.

Febuary  1, 2000

Nakhon Pathom Rajabhat University was connected to the internet of  KSC

 

               Mr. Niwat Klin-ngarm, the President of Nakhon Pathom Rajabhat University signed a contract with KSC Commercial Internet Co. to provide institution type of internet services. The speed provided was 128 kbps and the service fee was 58,850 baht per month. The rent of 128 kbps high-speed circuits was made with the Communications Authority of Thailand (CAT)  at the rate of 10883.75 baht per month with one month trial period.

Febuary  1, 2001

Nakhon Pathom Rajabhat University was connected to the internet of Uninet

 

               Nakhon Pathom Rajabhat University continued its institution network connectivity to the University Network of Information Technology for Education Development (Uninet) of the Ministry of University Affairs at the speed of 256 kbps. With the consent of The Council Office that agreed to fund each Rajabhat University the internet speed of 128 kbps and the speed of 4 Mbps for international network connectivity – a joint-venture with other Rajabhat Universities.  With the mission, Nakhon Pathom Rajabhat University had got to support 28,600 baht each month to  cover the additional costs accrued to additional bites and to cover while the remaining lease of high-speed 256 kbps circuit from  CAT at the fee rate of 10,883.75 baht per month. This is approved by the Information Technology Committee of Nakhon Pathom Rajabhat University Council with one-month trial period.

September 21, 2001

Nakhon Pathom Rajabhat University (NPRU) changed its internet speed from 256 kbps to 2 Mbps

 

               NPRU notified the University Network of Information Technology for Education Development (Uninet) of its requirement to change the internet speed to 2 Mbps for local network connectivity and the internet speed of 256 kbps for international network connectivity. With this change, NPRU was still responsible for  the additional expense of 28,600 baht each month together with  the additional of leasing expense of the high-speed circuit of 2 Mbps from CAT, which was 29,425 baht per month;  2-month trial period. The first payment began in November of 2001.

The Announcement of the Ministry of Education

 

               Regarding  the announcement published in the Nakhon Pathom Rajabhat University Gazette on August 3rd , 2006,  the Ministry of Education had an announcement on the issue of Structure of Organization of Nakhon Pathom Rajabhat University 2006. With the announcement, the Computer Center had to be affiliated to the Office of Academics Services and was named the Division of Information and Communication Technology.

September  2006    

The Strategic Plan of Information and Communication Technology of Nakhon Pathom Rajabhat University 2007 – 2010 was approved by the University Council.

October  2006    

The construction of the new Computer and Language Center started and was scheduled for completion in December 2008.

November  2006    

Nakhon Pathom Rajabhat University announced the Structure of Organization in its division level, resulting in changing the Computer Center status  to the Division of Information and Communication Technology under the jurisdiction of the Office of Academics Services and Information Technology.

Febuary  2007    

The core network (Back Bone) speed was up to 1 Gbps.

May  2007

The Division of Information and Communication Technology moved its office from Building A1 on the second floor to the Office of Academics Services (Old building) on the first floor.

November  2007    

 A  meeting   was held  for  designating  the  2008 action plan.

March   2008    

The installation of fiber optic was made to link Nakhon Pathom Rajabhat University to Silapakorn University Sanamchan Palace Campus. The speed was  1 Gbps.

May  2008    

Speed Backup Link Internet (KSC) was upgraded to 10 Mbps.

July  2008    

The installation of fiber optic that linked Nakhon Pathom Rajabhat University to Silapakorn University (Node of Uninet)  was upgraded to  the speed Main Link Internet (Uninet) at 100 Mbps. 

November  2008    

Speed Main Link Internet (Uninet)  was increased to  1 Gbps.

November  2009

Start to Lease ADSL lines for Backup Link Internet (3BB) for 5 circuits of 5 Mbps speed.
